Indole is an aromatic heterocyclic organic compound with a purine-like structure. It occurs naturally in many flowers like jasmin and lilac. Consider yourself warned: in high concentration Indole has a fecal smell that could be sickening. (Don't return it to us claiming that it is not as described.) But when used in low concentration in floral compositions, this chemical actually makes the chemical accord less chemical-like because it neutralizes and livens the synthetic fragrance.
As one of the basic building blocks, Indole is also very useful in organic synthesis.
