Presented for your consideration is this fine specimen of a Highland kilt brooch bearing the insignia and motto of Clan Sutherland. This brooch is in untouched, uncleaned, as-found condition with a wonderful patina. Based upon the construction, I would date this brooch to ca. 1900-1920. The brooch measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter and is struck in nickel silver. The design features a belt on which is superimposed the motto "SANS PEUR" (without fear). This surrounds a rampant feline. The reverse features a very substantial hinged pin colloquially referred to as a "T-bar" and an open loop catch which functions perfectly. This fine vintage brooch would most certainly complement your Highland dress ensemble if you are affiliated with Clan Sutherland.
