thin paper, vinyl, or cheap plastic aisle runners, but made of Fabric Mate, a durable 2 oz spun bound non-woven poly that feels like fabric yet much more sturdy! material! (non-woven fabrics are machine compressed fibers rather than woven)   They can be wiped clean too!  Fabric Mate Aisle runners can be used again with care These are so convenient and cost efficient, that they are often used by professional wedding planners!
